Understanding repeat prescriptions

Plain-language information to help you know what to expect and make informed decisions with your GP.

01

Why a review is needed

Medicines can change how they affect you over time, and new medicines, conditions or test results can change what is safest.

A regular review helps keep your treatment effective and safe.

02

Electronic prescriptions

An electronic prescription is sent as a QR code token by SMS or email. Your pharmacy scans it to dispense your medicine.

With an Active Script List, your pharmacy can keep track of your scripts for you.

03

Medicines and older adults

Taking several medicines increases the chance of side effects and interactions. A medicine review, including a Home Medicines Review with a pharmacist, can help.

Bring all your medicines to your appointment.
